Just finished catching up with Homestuck! Now I can browse dArt, Tumblr, TV Tropes and /r/homestuck without worrying about spoilers.

So I like to go around the craft stores and pick up the free patterns. I found a really neat shawl one that used the Lion Brand Homespun yarn. I thought “Sweet, I can do this for mom for Christmas!”
Found the yarn on sale, and bought the recommended three skeins.
Yeah, tried to start the project this morning… and fuck this noise. The yarn is bumpy lumpy, which would be nice once the project was finished I’m sure, but it makes it nigh impossible to figure out what lumpy is my stitch and which lumpy is the natural lumping of the yarn. I’ve already restarted three times and thrown a few temper tantrums on being unable to tell what my stitch is.
I’m sure that if I can ever get my way past the first row, I’ll be fine on my pattern. Future rows are crocheted into chain spaces and not the tops of the stitches. But gawd damn I can’t figure out the first row.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to deal with this difficult yarn?
The first picture is from Avatar: The Last Airbender , in episode 18 : The Waterbending Master, when Katara was sent to learn how to heal from Yagota, that little girl looks like the mother of Tarrlok. Its a cool resemblance. Possibly that girl was his mother’s mother XD Just a random parallel i found. :D
